I start today’s episode with a landmark moment in my life. A person I met with today (on a totally different topic) shared with me that she’s going to start a side hustle because of my Women In Business keynote from last year.
Hold. The. Phone.
This was her takeaway from an exercise we did to drive home the lesson about “Going to bat for yourself the way you do for your kids.” (P.S. We dig into that in Episode 6).
I want to _______________________ but I’m worried I will ____________________.
During the presentation I had attendees fill in slips of papers with the prompt above. They folded them up and placed them in the middle of the table and then I sprinkled them about the table so that everybody’s
“worries” would be addressed by somebody who wasn’t in the midst of it. The lesson I THOUGHT this would teach was that other people can see paths for you and advocate for you in ways that you don’t see/advocate.
But then a whole table had the same worry:
I’m worried I will fail.
What aren’t you starting because you are worried you will fail? What are you contemplating STOPPING because you haven’t created enough momentum yet to keep you going past the hard shit?
Please buy this book. Read chapter 5 in Marie Forleo’s “Everything is Figureoutable.” Do the prompts at the end. I summarize them (poorly) in this episode.
Let’s peel back the layers on our fear onion. Every day, we have to do something that reinforces our NEW story.
The only way we will fail is if we stop trying.
What’s the story you’re telling yourself that is holding you back?
